On Saturday (22nd February), Luke Pollard MP, accompanied by Celia Stevens, planted two special trees to mark the official opening of our new fruiting arboretum on Ferry Field – part of Devonport Park.
These two specimen trees, a “Pilgrim” and a “Mayflower” apple, were grown and donated to the arboretum by Celia, to mark the Mayflower 400 celebrations.
Among those present for this very special occassion were members of the FDP and our own gardening volunteers, one of Devonport ward councillors , Cllr Bill Stevens, Andrew Young from Plymouth Tree Partnership, Dianne Long from the Devon Gardens Trust, representatives from Plymouth City Council and the Chair of the FDP, James Brown.
Luke and Celia were both presented with certificates giving them lifetime membership of the Friends of Devonport Park.
A short ceremony was held by Rev Brian Moore to bless the trees.
