Covid 19 has had a serious impact on everyone and the Friends have not escaped it’s disruption. Like a lot of other organisations, all of our planned events for 2019 have been cancelled. Our volunteer gardeners were unable to work and in fact have only been back for a few weeks. Despite this, they have managed to create some stunning displays in the Napier Garden, at the Parks’ mail entrance in Fore Street. These beds were designed last year by the team as part of our contribution to the city’s Mayflower 400 commemorations so, we just couldn’t let the plants go to waste. The team came in and managed to get almost all the work done in one day! Here are a series of photos showing the work being done, followed by some of the completed work

Also, many of you will have noticed that the pop-up veg planters, installed last year, are being well used. Please feel free to plant and harvest crops whenever you like. It might be a good idea to put in a label saying what you have planted and remember, the idea is for everyone to share.
Now here is some very good news indeed. Both our fountains are now working. The good “Fountain Fairy”, aka our good member, Fairfax Luxmoore has been hard at work over the past week. Fairfax engaged local firm CPMR Water Engineers to make the necessary repairs. We owe him a great deal of thanks.

Award news. As you may have seen in the press, Devonport Park again achieved “Green Flag” status again this year. What you probably are not aware of is that we again achieved the 5 Star rating in the Pride in Parks awards from the RHS South West in Bloom. We are particularly proud of the fact that we consistantly achieve such high standards and it is testament to the hard work and dedication of all involved.
